Hey guys, I'm new here and I thought I'd just jump right in. Here's the issues I have and I'm hoping you guys have an answer.

I just got my 03 EB Expy. 5.4L I think... There are a couple issues. The one that concerns me the most is in the steering. Whenever I'm at a dead stop and say I need to make a sharp 90 degree turn, as I start rolling I hear a grinding. It's not always there. Probably about 80% of the time and it happens in either direction. I'm not too sure, but I don't recall it ever happening when I'm in reverse. The grinding goes away as soon as I straighten out the steering wheel. I don't know if this'll help but at 75mph the steering wheel used to shake pretty badly, but that's since gone away after the dealer rebalanced the wheels. Any ideas?

For my seconds issue. The mirrors don't turn down when I put the car into reverse. They used to work when I rolled off the lot, but when I purchased the car there was a problem with the front part of the driver's seat now elevating or declining, so it was put on the Due Bill to be repaired. After I got the car back from the dealer, in for the seat repair, (which didn't get repaired, but that's another issue i'll deal with later) the mirrors no longer move when I put the car in reverse. I checked the electronic settings on the dash and it's set correctly. I toggled the reverse mirrors option on and off and on again and still nothing. Coincidentally, the driver's side seat AC no longer works either. I'm thinking they neglected to reconnect something under the seat, but at a brief glance, I didn't see any unconnected cables, though they are jsut hanging from the bottom of my seat. They weren't even put back correctly or tied up or anything.


Ok i'll put this novel to rest. If you guys have any info, it'd be greatly appreciated.

The grinding noise is a known issue with the '03--Ford has a TSB on it, but you may not get a dealer to look it up for you. Its fixable, but probably on your nickel, since you should be out of warranty.

The mirror problem was also known on the '03, but this sounds like the work you had? done, on not done right, is your problem. From the factory, the mirrors on a lot of '03s liked to keep ratcheting when going down. And there have been problems with the memory settings on the seats.

You might want to ask on the XOG.com site for advice--there is a lot of knowledge and experience there specific to Expeditions.
