Cost for flathead rebuild

Before I talk to the guy that has been highly recommended... what is a ball park figure for having a 53 flathead engine re-built?
I'm told that when this guy isn't in jail he's the best mechanic on the planet...
I'm sure he will have some suggestions but I would like to have some figure of my own to know if he's being fair, reasonable, or trying to rip me off...

What you want
What you can afford
What your capable of doing
and many more.

Start with the basics and work you way into a second mortgage.
