Rear-Ends

Since I am planning selling my entire driveline I will need a replacement rear-end. WHat all years do I need to look for so that the replacement rearend will look the same as what I am taking out? (1966) does 6 or 8 foot bed matter? DO I need to measure the width of the rearend to be sure? How can I tell if I am getting a 3.25 ratio?

To find out what ratio you can read the tag if its there but never is. To conferm you can do this. If the rear end is out of the truck and has tires on it make the pinnion flange (drive shaft flange) and make the chuck housing with a nice line. Now mark the tires at 12 oclock roll the rear end one full turn while counting the number of turns the pinnion flange makes it should turn 3.25 turns for a 3.25 ratio. You need to turn both wheels cause of the spider gears in side the diff. You can do it installed to just takes two or three poeple cause you need to turn both wheels at the same time at the same rate to be accurate and one to count the flange turns.

Best of luck.

PS: why are you selling the whole rear end? Why not just get the gear set you need? If it's a 9' there in most want adds for $50 in any ratio

where are you finding 9" center sections for $50? That's what you would pay for a 2.75 gear (dime a dozen ratio). Around here a 3.25 would go for $100-175 and $250 if Posi.
