My 05' 6.0 has a check engine code po299 which is turbo underboost. The light came on yesterday while towing my camper.Truck is running fine, what do you guys think, needs a turbo ? I hope not only 37k. HOPEFULY SOMETHING LESS EXPENSIVE.
A P0299 could be caused by a failing or failed turbo among other things. More likely your EBP sensor is biased. The EBP should have a pressure reading of approximately 14.5 psi at sea level with the key on and engine off. You need a scan tool to check this. If the EBP pressure reading looks ok, I'll usually begin investigating a turbo related cause for this code.
i was told that the turbo is not covered under the 100000 mile. because it is bolted on. the eng's internal parts are the only think covered. after 36000 you are s.o.l.
when i bought the truck they even told me that you have a 100000 on the DRIVETRAIN. think that there is something fishy here. good luck
The turbo falls under emissions and IS covered. Your dealership is WRONG and needs to recheck it's facts or they are trying to rip you off. There is a recent thread about this (within the past 10 days) about what you have to pay. 100 dollar deductible at MOST. Powertrain isn't on 100000 unless you bought some kind of extended warranty.
I had the same code pop up on my 05 f350 ps 4x4, it turned out to be the turbo solenoid/VGT. It prevented the turbo from making full boost. It was a 1 day turn around to repair and it was covered under warranty. Just another option of what it could be. Good luck.
Like Catalina said... I was told my truck needed a new turbo (2nd time, under warranty) just for giggles grabbed a PDA and checked baro readings, BAM, EBP reading
20.68 KOEO. New EBP sensor and three wire harness, now reads 14.5. Evidently didn't need a turbo.
