Anybody familiar with Mike Shay? When I take the boys to school in the morning we normally listen to WCAZ outa Carthage, IL and a little 15 minute program called "It's a Beautiful Day For Living". It's hosted by a fella named Mike Shay. And it sounds like for quite a few years he opperated something called the Mike Shay Sports Caravan. Sounds like it was headquartered in Keokuk and that he travelled around to different communities in the area and gave schools play-by-play radio coverage that they normally wouldn't receive.
The little 15 minute program airs from 7:45-8:00 and is very up-lifting with little anecnotes and such. And he ends every show with prayer, which is a nice way to start my work day.
SO, have any of you SE Iowa guys ever heard of him? (I doubt you'd know him over in the Sioux City area.)
never heard of the guy on FM...and I don't live too far from keokuk..and neither has dad, which listens to AM radio. but it may not make it up to where we live so i can't say anything about him with any certainty.
Keokuk radio fades at Fairfield, but I haven't heard of him, what frequency is it? I'm usually on 96.3, KRNQ... John Boy and Billy morning show until 9.
It is AM. AM 990 out of Carthage, but he refers every once in a while to KOKX. I don't know that he's on there currently, he may have been employed there earlier in his career.
Maybe half of the sponsors he mentions during his 15 minutes are located in Keokuk, though.
Say. Today, Tuesday 11/14, Mike metioned that he's lived in Lee County for 38 years and (long story short) he wondered what the point of highest elevation was in Lee County. If anyone knows and would like to have their name mentioned on the radio, call him toll free at 888-524-MIKE.
He also was asking something about Walnuts, but I missed part of that.
