PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND IDLED UP THE STREET TO THE STOP SIGN, TURNED UP THE HILL AND GAVE IT A LITTLE FUEL, HIT ABOUT 2000 RPM IN 2ND GEAR, THERE WAS A POP ( almost sounded like a backfire) AND LOST POWER.
THE TRUCK DID NOT DIE,JUST LOST ALL POWER. THE TURBO WINE WAS GONE AND CLIMBING THE HILL WAS A CHORE. PULLED THE AIR INTAKE ,AND THE TURBO SPINS OK, SO IM THINKING IT MIGHT BE THE TURBO BOOST REGULATOR POPED ITS DIAPHRAM? ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS.

a few things before we start. Welcome to FTE, you have found the best place on the net for Fords. second, please do not use all CAPS to write, as it looks like you are yelling (i know you are not, but it looks bad).
to start, i believe you popped a intercooler pipe boot off. start at the turbocharger outlet, and check all 6 boots that start at the compressor manifold (the thing that sits in front of the turbo with the pipes coming in and out of it). make sure the boots are on snug. follow the driver's side pipe down into the front of the engine near the radiator, and see if the boot is still on. check the other pipe at both ends too. and if all is still well, then check the two orange boots that are below the compressor manifold that lead into the engine. AND, if all is still well, start by removing each one of the boots (the clamps are 11mm or 7/16") and inspect for holes or tears in the boots.
Yup, I also believe you popped off one of the intercooler boots. With all the oil going into the intercooler, you'll probably have to drain the excess oil and clean up the boots real good and try to connect them. Some say they use hair spray on the boots when reattaching them.
strokin_it 7.3 is usually right on with his repleys. You can do a search on intercooler boots and you will find alot of post on them popping off and how to fix them. There are after market boots and if you look in the common mods section you can find out how to do the ccv mod that will eliminate the oil in the lines which will make the boots not so slippery and not wanna pop off.
thanks for the info on the pipes, i will check them as soon as i get outside. i looked the most obvious ones over and they looked good, didn't look at the ones under the manifold. sorry for the caps. sometimes us old guys yell and don't know it cause we don't hear good lol.will let you know when i figure it out
ive been checking the forum since before i bought the truck, and will thank you all now for the wealth of info that helped me make my decisions in regard to its purchase and the mods i have and will make.
thanks for the replies from all of you, it was one of the intercooler hoses that had poped off. cleaned the hoses and put them back on, pluged the wastgate acuater hose off and the truck runs great, way better from a stop than before.
thanks again - straycat-2
