Oil everywhere!

I started noticing some oil spots under my 01 F350 7.3 Diesel last week. It has steadily grown very large. Yesterday I put 1 qt of oil in it. This morning before leaving work I put another qt in it and when I got home there isn't a drop on the dip stick. Oil is dripping everywhere. Any Ideas? Someone said it may be a oil sending unit. I am not sure where to find it. Yesterday oil pressure read just fine. Didn't notice it today. It has also been running funny since I changed my fuel filter a couple of weeks ago. Throtle seems like it surges especially at slower speeds. Could the oil leak and surging be related? I had changed out the throttle position sensor a couple of months ago and that seemed to fix the problem then. This is a different sensation with the throttle. Any help would be appreciated.

Ray

You might want to repost over on the 7.3 diesel forum

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum31/
I believe you will find the help you want there.
you need to look down on top of the engine and see if it is standing full of oil in the valley. this will require getting on top of the engine with a light a looking straight down. Notice if the oil is towards the front and back or just the back. If you are loosing it that fast, I would suspect high pressure oil leak. O-rings are a culprit most of the time. You may even be able to see the leak if you look while it is running.
See on the 7.3 board.

Thanks, I will repost there. There is oil standing in the front and the rear on top of the engine. Where are the O rings you are talking about?

Follow the lines coming from the HPOP. There are o-rings on the lines where they go into the oil rails. there are also test plugs along the rails with o-rings as well. If it is on the high pressure side, you should see the oil leaking out while engine is running. You may want to clean the engine with degreaser and water hose first to clean all the oil off. Run you engine and see if you see any leaks. If not run it for a few miles the check again.

yep sounds like HPOP O-rings. front top of the engine, it makes a mess but is pretty easy to fix
