Powerwashing the engine compartment?

Hey just wanted to see how you guys go about doing this. What areas should I cover up and with what. Any particular chemical to use? I am really hesitant to do this but it really could use it. Thanks guys

On a cold engine, cover the cap on the power steering pump (it has a vent hole in the top) and the alternator. Go over the electrical connectors quickly and don't force water into any connections. The rest you just wash like normal. Many people coat the engine with simple green before washing it. Let it air dry for a couple of hours with the hood up before cranking.

I just spray a can or two of engine degreaser all over the engine minus electrical connections. Hose off and let dry. Cover your open air filter and/or electrical connections especially those under the master cylinder when hosing off.
Have done it this way for years.

I use Greased Lightning the rinse it with a garden hose No Sprayer and never use High Pressure washers I have seen way to many horror stories where people were chasing down a wet connector for several days. deffinately cover the Alt and PS pump the plugs on the brake cylinder are weather tight like the rest and I never use more than a thumb to build hose pressure.

I second the vote for using the hose only
simple green works great for me just spray it all
