doors off

i've been toying with the idea of removing the doors of my truck for offroading. i want to be able to reconnect them and have them work. the catch is i have pw and pl. i figure i can just cut the wire and put some quick connect connectors between them. or... is there a harness i can unplug? i want the transition between on and off to be pretty easy and smooth. anyone done this? any suggestions or thoughts? i'm missing my jeep days. ya'll help me out

"pretty easy and smooth" does not come to mind when i think of taking off and putting on f150 doors.

this does not sound like a good idea imho.

nissan doors probably weigh half what the f150 door does.

just to remove the pins in the doors you need an engine lift or hydralic jack and maybe a friend to help.

it just does not sound practical.

if you want to do it it is your truck, so good luck.

I would not recommend it. I owned an 89 Toyota 4runner and I had taken the doors off. It took 2 of us, one to hold the door and the other to unbolt and bolt it. I can only imagine how heavy the F150 doors are. Granted it looked super trick the A$$ pain is not worth the outcome, especially if you have power door locks and power windows. Keep us posted

Even if you made the mechanical part practical, there are about a dozen+ wires that you'd need to make a connector for, and there isn't much room in the area where you are looking to cut into it.

Even though this sounds like the work out wieghts the enjoyment. If you can figure out a way to make hinges easy to separate. The wires are easy. Street rodders use contact panels for wiring. close doors make contact. Doors open no wires. I use them on some projects. Worked fine for me. Kits comes with good instructions. What ever you decide good luck.

I used to take the doors off my 78 bronco fairly regularly. I would bet with confidence that they were heavier than the 86+ doors. It looks like the hinges were easier to access on the 78 though. It can be done if you are strong enough.

i'm already rigging up a manual winch system in my garage for some other projects. that'd take care of the weight issue.
