Hey guys, I have a 4.9 in my '91 F150. Anyways, why I'm asking these questions is, well... because I don't know them
Alright, I'm wondering how to "open up headers". Like I said, I'm a newb at this. Like, when my friends uncap their headers, they take the cap off of the side of their exhausts... I don't know if I'm making any sense.
Basically what I'm wanting to know is, when I buy my Hedman Header, how should I set it up? Like run the 2 out header into a 2 in 2 out flowmaster, or what? I want to run it "open" all the time to make it sound better... but I want the open header to run through my muffler... did that make any sense?
someone help please my head is about to explode, lol.
your friends built cut outs into their exaust so that they can open up the headers and run open headers if they feel like it. you can't run open headers and through an exaust at the same time. what they mean by "open up headers" is no exaust system just the headers. when they take a cap off, they are opening a cut out they built into their exaust system that basically is eliminating the exaust and dumping everything out of just the headers, this sounds very, very nice, but is very, very illegal on the street.
they are not as good as actual headers, but you don't have the problems with them that you do with headers, manifolds don't rust through like cheaper headers, you don't have to worry about header and collector gaskets with manifolds. headers also tend to put off alot of heat near the starter with has adverse affects on ur starter over time.
300 headers dont use collector gasket, get them ceramic coated allivates a lot of the aforementioned issues as well.
a 300 with open headers is crazy, but very obnoxious. i had a magnaflow on mine and it wasnt the best sound. and from my experience w/ fartmasters on 300s...it wont sound that good either. one decent set up i heard was a 300 w/ headers running a cheapie turbo muffler.
right now im running straight pipe and wont run a muffler.
