Hi, I have a 95 3.0 with almost 200,000. It was given to me by my father and I'd like to use it as daily transportation. I've have owned and rebuild a 89 aerostar. I've noticed, because of daily use by my father and a heavy load, that the motor is worn out. Not much power and burns blue smoke when started. I'd like to swap another younger engine.
Today, the local junk yard is 50% off on all engines. Can I swap a Ranger or Taurus engine? If so, what years can I look for? Thank you for the help..
20 minutes to replace air intake (air intake of taurus is rotated 180 dgr) and valve covers.... But it is reccomemded to replace flightwheel, I don know why... Taurus flightwhell fits aero well, but is you have 5st tranny dont forget to install small nidle bearing inside the krankshaft (21 mm outer diameter, 16 mm inner (15mm for European tranny))... There is no this bearing on taurus with MT, bucause there is 2 inner bearings on primary shaft niside Taurus tranny.
i m also swaping a tourus into a aero and i have a question about the tourus motor.... i have heard there is a diffrance in the lifters , cam shafts, and possibly valve size... IS THIS TRUE??? if there is a diffrence between the taurus and aero lifters and cam and valves can somone please tell me wich combo will give me the most power for the punch????....
THANK YOU
MPGVAN! What a difference for you, what is the valve size inside this engine.....? It fits aero, but torque at low RPM is a bis weaker, but engine better runs fust.
may have a problem getting one of these Taurus car engine swaps to pass emissions in an Aero in an emissions state which is the direction all are headed here in states....cam, head combustion chambers and exhaust are different along with PCM hard programming
Wash. State shows no mercy on older rigs....that's why i may have to get rid of my older highly modified rich running performance rigs....to get them to pass emissions and get registered almost have to set the carbs and timing up at home....then rig won't run on highway so have to trailer to testing facility and trailer back home....not worth is....
friend has shop business here...that is all he does is boy toy work and getting the old man hod rods to pass emissions for licensing

I belive, no problem with emmission test my appeare. Well... the other problem may happen... Taurus have the other head gaskets and other coolant stream distribution... But as I've heard it was no problem wiht installing Taurus motor to Aero, Explorer, Ranger and even Soviet Volga.... Runs well....
I had 1 problem with engine block from tauras - with A/C compressor installation. That is all......
I did this swap a few years ago, on my father-in-laws '94. Got the motor out of a then new Taurus ( owner had a wreck pulling out of the dealers lot, 105 miles on the engine ). The parts I had to replace were the following:Oil pan, and pickup tube, intake manifold, motor mounts, exaust manifolds, water pump, distributor, flywheel, and accesory brackets. I live in New York, and that little 3.0 liter has NEVER failed to pass emissions. I would completely tune up the motor before you reinstall it. The biggest hang up I had with it, is the exaust manifold studs rotted out, so I couldn't get the pipes bolted back up. A quick trip to the Ford dealer took care of that. The swap was easier than I thought it would be, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
Mike! Taurus engine is a bit faster, but has lower torque at low engine speed. I can see no difference as a driver. About ex. manyfolds - the ceppest way to use old from your old engine. I installed them without gaskets, with germetic only. No leaks.
Got this info from Pablo-UA So I cannot take credit, but man, EXCELLENT ARTICLE!!
There are different versions of 3.0 ( http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/eb90450.htm ), but they are interchangeable. And you can use 3.0 from OBD-II truck, but install your sensors to it.
