I want to change the cab on my 76 f350, the truck is a 4 speed but the 79 cab I'm planning on using is an auto. Is there a plate under the carpet I can remove for the shifter? I have changed cabs on trucks before, seems like I remember there being a plate on the trans hump, but not sure which make it was now. Thanks Tim
my 79 that was a four speed had a removable plate. but my 65 had the outline of a plate being there, but it was factory made as one piece. hope it helps
yes there is a bolt on plate under the carpet you can use all the stuff out of your 75 cab pedal hanger steering, column. There is a slight differance in the bottom of the dash where the steering column mounts and you may have to use the piece out of the 75 cab. The pedal hanger mounts /master cylinder mounts are a little different but are easly adaptable been there done that
Be carefull. If your truck is a 4x4 and the cab you are looking at is not, the tunnels could be different and the new cab wont fit over the trans and trasfer case.
most 2wd auto's dont have a bolted in pan, the grooves are there but it has to be cut out....i have a 2wd 76 F-150 auto that is that way, and a 78 F-250 4x4 with a cab from a 76 2wd auto, and neither one of them have a removable doghouse, the 78's original cab had the bolt in doghouse because it was a 4x4....now, some 2wds could have had it that way, Ford had so many combos that anything is really possible.....even if your cab dont have it ready, you can buy one of the covers from a salvage yard and cut the floor out of your truck, then drill some holes and bolt it in...i saved the one from my 78 cab for that exact reason....
Good point. Noone mentioned if the trucks were 2wd or 4x4. Every cab I've dealt with has been 4x4, except one 74 f100, and that was a 3 on the tree, so no dealings with the tranny hump. The other 79 F100, my buddy swapped onto his 76 F250, had to have the rear holes drilled, but I don't remember if his tranny hump was bolted in or not.
