1966 Rearend Width

I think I read somewhere that different years have different sized (width) rearends? Since I have 4.11 gears and want to change this to a stock ratio I need to find another rearend. Also someone said the spline count was different too? I guess I need to check the housing width if I need to change the entire rearend and I also need to count the splines if I keep my housing and axles and just change the pumpkin part...???

The only information you will need is the spline count. The ring and pinion gears bolt up to any 9" rear end. And while your at it you may want to rebuild yours. Look in the tech article for the rebuild steps. Good luck.

jc, In 73 the rear axle was widened, although the 9" center section is the same. You will have to pull an axle and count the splines and get a new pumpkin with the same number of splines. What are you planning to install?
