Multiple issues, same culprit?

I have a 1995 F250, 5.8L, auto transmission. When the key is turned to the start position, several annunciators illuminate but the engine does not turn. It starts fine by shorting the solenoid near the battery using a screwdriver. I replaced the solenoid and it still doesn't start from the cab. Also, the speedometer and odometer do not work, the dashboard lights do not work, the ABS annunciator stays lit, and it does not shift properly. I swapped the solenoid and it still doesn't start.

What are the odds of a bad solenoid straight from the box?

I have checked the fuse box and no fuses are blown.

Any ideas if everything is linked or just multiple simultaneous failures?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds to me like you have ripped the wiring off the NSS at the transmission the ripped the wiring out from the VSS sensor.

Been out four wheeling?

No, but I did just drive Denver to Minneapolis to Milwaukee. It hasn't been off a paved road in months.

At any rate you need to look at the Transmission Range Sensor at the Transmission and the VSS sensor at center top of your rear end and their wiring.

I am almost wondering about your ignition switch. This is not a valid suggestion, but worth a thought. Definitely an electrical problem, grab the haynes manual and start following wires. That is where I would start.

After rethinking this one you may have lost your dash ground or your body ground.
Check all ground wires at the dash and from the Neg Battery post to the body ground.
