I have a 96 5.8. Recently starting has become dicey. Sometimes it starts very quickley as was the norm. Other times it takes many tries before it fires off, when it does its as if there was no problem to begin with. All noises appear normal, fuel pump whirr, clicking relays and of course gas is in the tank. Any help out there.
First off, welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will endeaveor to get you the most accurate information we can muster.
When was its last tune up... full blown, plugs, cap, rotor, filters etc? If that has been recent, the next step is to pull computer fault codes. With your 96 you will either need a code reader or take it to the local Autozone or major parts outlet. These places provide the reading as a free service in most cases. Another thing to check is the amount of crud in the IAC (Idle Air Control) solenoid/valve assembly. Its mounted to the driver's side of the throttle body. My gallery may still have a photo of it posted somewhere. If not do a search of this forum for "IAC". Should yield tons of info. on the topic.
