Well, the planned on crank trigger kit for my 390 did not show up. One week later, and they sent me an email informing me the product (MSD number 8660) was discontinued. Also, I can find no other crank trigger to fit the FE.
I called around a few other places and nobody has one.
Okay I've had more time to think about this dilema after getting some food in my system. All of the MSD crank trigger systems look pretty much the same except different flywheels. Have you called the MSD hotline and chatted with them about crossing one from a Chrysler or Chevy? Or the possibility of have the flywheel made? Just throwing out ideas. I threw out that website think there is a chance someone may have one in stock.
Yeah... I sent them an email. I doubt they'll have it either. So far 3 places had 'em listed as in stock, but none of 'em actually had one when I attempted to order.
MSD has a "do it yourself" system that I probably could make work. But after the fact that they discontinued an FE part, I hesitate to give any business to MSD.
I did a search for the HI-6, other than the wire harness and color how do they justify the difference in prices?
Looks like maybe you should make your own trigger, it's nothing more than an over-glorified proximity switch anyway. Pick the flavor that suits ya; 2 wire, 3 wire, inductive, capacitive, the big thing is matching to the ECU. What input is the Holley looking for?
C'mon Kurt, be a rebel! Make a mounting bracket to replace the timing pointer. Mark up a new damper, mill a tone ring or embed some magnets, re-balance. Junkyards have tons of crank sensors, it's just that none bolt directly to FEs.
