I have been having a problem with my '65 f100 390 where after I start the engine to let it warm up and rev the engine, the idle speed increases some and I can't get it to kick back down all the way(without turning the idle screw.) In addition to this, I am unable to choke the engine without it stalling. This is a very recent problem, I used to choke it every morning to start it up but now it just dies if it's choked. Also...Once in a while when I put it in gear and accelerate I feel as if there is no power. No matter how much gas I give it the truck only goes a few miles an hour. This lasts a couple seconds and then everything is back to normal. Most of the time, though, the truck runs awesome. All these problems are leading me to believe that it may be time for a good cleaning or even a new carb, but I thought I'd ask you guys first. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Trevor, Sounds to me like Ol Ford Iron (cold). You will have to learn your truck and how much choke to give it, when to give it, when to nock it off, etc. After I get my truck going I cut way back on the choke but don't close it off until I have driven it a couple of miles. I have a stop close by and have to be prepaired to pull the choke, pat the gas or what ever until it gets rolling good.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Sounds like your choke is sticking slightly on. Make sure it open all the way this can cause the hi idle to cause the fast idle cam might be sticking. BTDT. You might have worn out the main body of the carb where the shaft runs some times the shaft and body wear and ride up on each other and stay there.
I had an original two barrel with my 66 ford f250 on a 352. The sahft going through the carb had worn out so bad that it wiggled in my finger. I put a rebuild kit on it and it ran a little better but not much. My new two barrel carb cost me $115 at shucks kragen etc etc so consider all your possibilities :-staun
