Differences in driveshafts
I have a 1955 panel which has the original 223,6cyl. with the Fordomatic trans and stock rearend. I need to find a drive train for it, preferably stock. How much of a difference in shafts is there between a manual trans. and one for my application? I've heard mine should be about 56 1/2 inches long and that appears to be about right by measurement. Does anyone know where I might find one or am I looking at having one made? Any advice is appreciated.

You might also want to pay special attention to the spline count. I seem to remember that some manual transmissions used an output shaft with fewer splines than automatics but I can't say for sure if that applies in your situation. It's something to check though if you should happen to find a shaft the right length.

It's a 28 spline shaft, there is a difference in Length between an Auto & Manual trans Propeller Shaft & unless you are able to locate one in a Wrecking Yard, it's best to have one made custom.
You also have to find a Specific Auto Trans Mount for it, which is also mounted in a different spot than the Manual trans's.
