Greetings all, just bought my first sd. An 06 f250 cc 4x4 psd! Just picked her up last week and love it. I've been reading here and trying to take the right steps in breaking it in properly. My question is about driving around town, do you guys use tow/haul or just use od? On my f150 I always took it out of overdrive in town to keep it from always shifting, and I never had any problems with it. Thanks for taking the time to chime in and love all the info here, it's great.
Well, it might be the wrong answer, but I've had a PSD since '99, got my new one in June-05 and I keep mine in OD, even in town, even when towing, unless it keeps down-n-up shifting.
Congratulations on your new SuperDuty!! When I bought my last SD new, I took it easy for the first 1000 miles (some people suggest 500 miles) I took it through the different speed ranges and RPM's but nothing over 65. I was extra careful to make sure it was broken in properly and never had any engine issues with it since then. Those first 1K miles will the the most boring miles you do, but are the most important too. Enjoy it.

Welcome to FTE!
You post a good question, however with the 5R100 Auto transmission in your NEW SD...it is quite different than the 4R100 or other typical OD tranny. True...in the 4R100 you can turn off the OD, but on the 5R100 that is not possible. The TOW/HAUL mode is different. It doesn't just change the 5th gear, but all gears...and makes the 5R100 shift at optimum settings for the payload or towing that you are doing. It is a very adaptive tranny.
So...just leave your SD with the TOW/HAUL mode off (unless towing)...and your 5R100 will take care of the rest.
Hope this makes sense...of your question.

Thanks for the replies, yeah, I've been taking it easy and they are definetly some boring miles! But I want to do it right and plan on tking it easy for the first 1000 (only at about 350 right now). I figured I should use od and not the tow as I was thinking that it may learn a shifting pattern from doing that and it would be no good later down the road and I whent to tow something.
That brings me to another question, why do some people want to modify it so that when you start the truck it defaults to tow/haul? Would this be if you always had a trailer hooked up or what? I just remember seeing a mod for it when looking through the sight and that's what got me to thinking about this.
