high idle

1998 mazda b2500 2.5 engine goes to a high idle when i clutch in to shift. it settles down after a few seconds. it does this warm or cold but does not produce a check engine light. any help appreciated.

Does the skinny pedal come back completely? If so It could be the throttle positioning sensor (TPS) It could just be sticky, or not reading properly... I've seen this happen without giving a Check Engine Light.

What do you mean by high idle? 900-1100ish rpms? Ford programmed these trucks to maintain a higher idle until the speed drops below 5mph.

could be a dirty or BAD IAF on the intake. Check the archives on how to clean, replace. Mine is bad and I just disconnected (94 4.0) runs fine without it.

today it seems to fun fine. The sticky tps sounds like the culprit. Many thanks to all who gave advice.
