Expeditions....

OK, I want to upgrade my wife's ride from her current '96 Windstar to an Expedition. Originally, I was going to try and get in one that was a couple years old to try and save some money vs. buying new. Wouldn't ya know it? Ford had to come out with the '03s, which I like much better! I know the new ones haven't been out very long, but I was just wondering if any of you had purchased an '03 or maybe you might have an opinion, one way or the other. Ford sure knows how to make it tough on a guy.........

THANKS!

The 03's are really, really nice. The ride is a tremendous improvement over the older ones, or anything else for that matter.

I figured as much, Marty. I haven't test-driven an '03 yet. That'll be another reason to have to lay out the big bucks on a new one.........

Thanks for the opinion!

if you would still be willing to "settle" for an Expy thats a couple of years old they have become quite the bargain around here (central Virginia) since the '03s came out. You could easily find a low milage unit in great condition for many, many thousands below the cost of an '03, in fact a visit to a dealer could result in the purchase of a 'left-over' new '02 for many thousands less then the cost of an '03. it's all up to you

We have a '99 coming off lease this month and the resale value has just cratered in the past year. Market seem glutted with used ones. Would be great time to buy.

XLT 5.4L 4x4 w/tow pkg and all upgrades short of the EB edition: 3 year nutshell review,
PROS: good family hauler with excellent road manners whether loaded or unloaded. Tows 2 horses and big trailer easily. Many creature comforts. Interior has held up well, fit/finish good, paint/trim have held up well.
CONS: For a vehicle this large it is ridiculous how little cargo can be carried. The 3rd seat option leaves zero space in rear for hauling everday items, say like, groceries or luggage. You can get maybe 2 or 3 sacks in if not overly full or two small suitcases. Both rear seats go all way to floor, making it impossible to carry any long items such as skiis, lumber, etc and no spare room on sides either.

Impression: Built like a bulldog; big and muscular up front with a teeny-weeny rear end.
