Talking 1000 thread/ want to change my carb.

well I'm posting the 1000th thread here.

I'm going to change the carb in my 86 ford. It has a Holley and it is so hard on gas. I read in the fuel section that the holleys are good performance racing carb or off roading carb, but not that great on gas. The carter /Edelbrock carbs are better for everyday driving and milegae.
So who is a good reasonable place in around Saskatoon here to buy a Edelbrock carb.
I weighed the readings in that forum and saw lots of guys praising the Edelbrock more than the Holley. Don't get me wrong there were lots of praises for the Holley. But I'm willing to try this and see if I can get better mileage and then keep the truck. Since we now have a 3rd addition to our family. (Rosie) A great Pyrenease Mastiff and my 2 blue heelers. We need that extendacab for a family truck.

PM Paso1 or lockups as they maybe able to get you a smokin deal on a new carb or any other specialty/speed equipment. Other than that Parts Source may have a decent deal but I would try Paso1 or lockups first.

So far they have only been drooling when they see us eating something they would like or their favorite dog treats. That looks gross when it hangs from their mouths.

Autotrends.... never had a problem, and they don't rip you off.

I would see if the carb can be re-jetted before anything, it could have a number of problems... such as:
bad/wrong power valve
incorrect jetting
incorrect secondary spring
float levels too high
bad gaskets

I thought of rejetting. The problem is with a holley you have to take it apart to rejet. The Edelbrocks can be rejetted from the outside without dismantling the carb. The holley was rebuilt by the previous owner. I hate carb work and I cannot find anyone who will do a holley and can get different size jets around here. I talked to a few guys that play with carbs won't touch the holleys.

I've got 2 Holleys All my race buddies run them also. I agree that the Edelbrock is easier all around, just figured it may be worth while. However, if you go Edelbrock, I would go 600 - 650 cfm, yes Ford's Holley was like 680 on that motor but that is oversized when it comes to the aftermarket. The guys at Autotrends can definately send you in the right direction.

No, I am not affiliated with that company.. I just find thier service and knowledge of the aftermarket to be superior.

Holley's are easier once you get used to them and understand them.. if you don't understand them, you'll be running in circles.
Although, the key to any carb tuning is to make sure your timing is setup properly.. then worry about the carb.
