Rotted radiator question
When I brought home my '79 f-100, with a 302 one of the first things I did was to check the cooling system. It looked like it hadn't been serviced since it left the factory in 79. The radiator is shot, so is the thermostat and water pump. That isn't such a big deal to me, but I had planned on building the engine up with some new heads, intake, and carb set up. The engine only has 61k on it, but I was wondering will the old, rusty coolant affect the integrity on the block at all? This is a new problem to me and I don't want to invest too much money in a block that isn't as strong as it should be. Any opinions?

I doubt the block is affected, but you can tell a lot about the system from the condition of the freeze plugs. If they are paper thin and leaking that is a good indication of how much corrosion is in the system. It will need a very through flushing in anycase just from what you have described.
