carpenter front fit
hi,
just purchased a carpenter polished stainless front bumper for my 56...
finding a fit issue....
it is like the bumper is too wide for frame rails....
have bumper sitting on frame rails...
there is a large gap in bottom brackets..... and tapered larger towards rear of truck....... probably 2 inches~~
anyone else have this problem?
plan on calling them tomorrow.........

My memory is a little fuzzy on this since I installed mine a few years back. Is it possible that you need to flip over the brackets?

that would seem to make it worse as the offset would be going down instead of up....
thanks for the reply though....
it is almost like the bumper is too wide........

Are you saying you are trying to attach the bumper to the rails alone? do you have the lower brackets that go between the frame and the bottom of the bumper?

in my initial post, i mention the brackets..............
the bumper rests on the top rails of the frame... two mounting holes each side aligned....
the brackets are attached to the lower holes of the bumper...
they resemble bat wings...
the offset that is bent into the brackets is oriented 'up'.....
which would reduce the space
there is still about 1-2 inches of space between the mounting point of the bottom bracket and the bottom of the frame rail......
and as stated above, there seems to be an angle with the wider gap towards the rear of the truck.........
it is like the bumper was bent too tall............
i know pics would help, but cannot facilitate that right now........

hmmm. That is strange. Have you measured the height?
Let us know what Carpenter's says.

wound up re-bending bottom brackets to facilitate alignment...........

Hey I heard Carpenters had some othe rbumpers with off spec bolt holes and were selling them off on ebay. I dont think it was any of the 50-60 trucks it was 78 date range.
It just lets you know some of this stuff is gonna need some fitting.

this one came off the shelf - over the counter.....
after bending a bit of a 'kick' in the bracket, all is well...
all bolt hole alignment was right-on.....
