I have a 03, 6.0 6 spd running 3:73 gears. 4" MBRP exhaust and Quadzilla intake.
Can anyone tell me at what mph the 6.0 will run with the limiter disabled ?
I'm looking for the number where horsepower can no longer overcome vehicle weight and aerodynamic drag.
Will the 6.0 hit the governed engine speed before reaching max mph?
A dodge started all this is all I will say for now.
I had mine about 107 before i was dragging, but being that it's a dually i'm sure that caused it to start getting hard to increase speed quicker then a single axle truck. My old dodge got to 120 easy and that was with the governor still on(i didnt do any performance mods to that truck). I believe that even though the speedo goes to 100, I think it starts cutting back at 98 or 99 if you still have the governor on.
I hammered mine in Okalahoma on a long straight stretch and the speedo quit at 96 but the truck was still accelerating. The Edge Attitude was registering 128 before I backed down for a hill.
I guess what I would like to know is wheather the 6.0 will run up to it's engine goverened speed? Mine stops pulling at 97 - 98 mph, by the speedo. I still have a lot of rpm's left before I hit redline, but will it pull itself much faster if the limiter gets broken ?
I have a 99 with a 7.3, same gears and it will tach out at around 120. It will pull up to max engine rpm. ( not stock )
The rpms on the 6.0 were around 2750 when it shut down. Just doing a little in my head figuring, it looks like 125 should be a good number if it has enough power to pull it. Thanks for the reply's, much appreciated.
I recall stock having enough power for 125+ I believe Daryl Hunter did the calcs.
One user hit 154 with a custom tuned 6.0, exhaust and water/methanol injection. You need to run 100% torque convertor lockup in O/D for this. It was wound out over 4,000rpm and the egt gauge was pinned above 1600. Too bad the pics are gone.
