I have a problem with the OD Off light. The transmission will shift out of OD amd into OD correctly. The problem with the switch is that the light will not come on when switching out of OD. I have replaced the switch with a new one from FORD and the light still does not work. My question is what else could be wrong a disconnected wire?.
There is a WH/LG (I'm assuming White w/Light-green stripe) wire that goes from the light (LED) to the PCM. The other wire from that light goes to the switch, which since it works, is not the problem.
It goes to pin 12 of the PCM. If this wire is connected all the way through, the PCM output for the OD light is bad. Which means a new PCM.
well mine kept blinking on & off, but the tranny didnt shift in & out thou. my problem was the VSS sensor, but when the OD light would blink the speedo would quit working as well. this is just a thought cause that sensor can cause many problems
Sometimes the light would come on and sometimes it would not.
Mine does this.. My guy at the Ford House said it is very common,,he opened the collum and moved the wires around and it worked fine for a while, not it's back on again but never effects the way the tranny shifts. he said the only real cure was to replace the whole stalk as the wires were chaffed. i havent really worried about it but have thought about opening it up again and putting some shrink tubing on the wires to keep the bare wires from grounding and throwing the light. Those are some really small wires in there.!
When you say you replaced the switch, was the entire shifter lever? Or just the switch on the end?
The other guys are right, there is a chafing issue with the shifter. A wire could have broken right there. I though since you changed the switch, you changed the entire thing.
I ended up replacing the shift lever itself. That way you can route the wires correctly & won't have an issue with chafing anymore. You just pop the pin out & put new shifter in.
