How disable automatic door lock?

I know that some computer-run features can be disabled by manipulating switchs etc. in a certain sequence. Where can I find instructions? I want to disable the automatic door locks. They don't unlock when I stop, and I'm forever approaching the passenger side to get a tool or whatever and have to walk around to unlock the door. A useless feature, and maybe dangerous. If in an accident and unconcious, the dam doors will be locked, slowing down rescuers. Help.

Dont worry Warrens250 a locked door has NEVER slowed us down.

I am sure that one of the wires comming from the GEM controls this. I will look tonight when I get home and see if I can find which one triggers the accuator but I am afraid that it will be the same trigger as the remote and the GEM just decides when to do it.

you can drill a hole through the pull release, then put a bolt with a nut on it through the hole.

I'm pretty sure this is in the Owners Manual... try a glance through there and see if you can't find it.

Mine is a 2000 and the doors do NOT autolock when I start driving... they stay how I tell them to stay. It was like this when I bought it used, so I think the previous owner disabled it.

Did you look in your owners manual yet like I suggested? Pg. 63-64?

Here you go:

Autolock (if equipped)
This feature automatically locks all vehicle doors when the following
conditions are met:
• the ignition is in the RUN position,
• all doors are closed,
• the brake is pressed before reaching 8 km/h (5 mph) and
• the vehicle is traveling more than 8 km/h (5 mph).
Relock
The autolock feature repeats when the following conditions are met:
• the vehicle’s speed is less than 8 km/h (5 mph), and
• any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the RUN
position, and
• the brake is pressed before reaching 8 km/h (5 mph), and
• the vehicle is traveling more than 8 km/h (5 mph).
(p. 63)

Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is OFF and
all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must
wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will
chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long
chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the
procedure is complete.
(p. 64)

I've been battling a transfer to a new computer, and haven't made it out to the truck. Thanks for reminding me. Just went and looked; yup, its there. I've scolded folks for not following their manual regarding tranny fluid and radiator fluid, and here I've fallen into the same trap.
Thanks again.

Lol, no way did I type that, w/ the nice bullets and all. A quick highlight, ctrl c, ctrl v.

And glad you got it, Warren. Hope it doesn't give you trouble trying to disable it... I know the seatbelt minder is tough to disable at times.
