Question Brakes Anyone?

I have an 04 sc with 51,000 combined towing and highway miles. I've recently noticed a shimmy when stopping, feels like a warped rotor, maybe? How involved is the replacement of brakes and rotors on this truck? and if I do this what brands do you think I should go for? Thanks all.

it'll be more work if yours is 4x4 to replace a rotor...but generally it is pretty easy and no real special tools usually...Autozone I know rents everything necessary to do the job at no cost to you because you recieve you deposit back when you return them. I wouldn't recommend doing it if you've never done brakes before, but if you have the knowledge to change the pads you can change the rotor too....

actually, isn't it the opposite, it's more work to change the rotors on the 4x2's? You have to pull the whole hub apart. I'm pretty sure the 4x4 rotors slide off easily just like on any other normal car.

in any case, it sounds like your rotors are starting to warp and it would be good to change them. Porterfield carbon kevlar pads are nice and don't produce dust, and Powerslot rotors are pretty good rotors.

last 4x4 i worked on was a 90 f150 it wasn't bad at all, my 01 isn't difficult either. Id say about equal either way but the rotors dont just slide off on the 90 i worked on. those rotors are part of the hub

The new ones just slide off. I did a break job on my 02 and I just ordered new breaks for my 05 4x4. When you remove the cailaber the rotor pops right off. I only have 12k on my 05 and the break dust is driving me crazy. I ordered a new set of pads front and rear and a new set of cross drilled/slotted rotors front and rear. It cost me 384 w/shipping The rotors have a coating so the won't rust up to bad.
I put a set of there brakes on my wife's Bonneville and they have no dust and stop on a dime with change to give back.
All I can say is "Excellent Breaks" sense I replaced them
This is who I bought mine from.

Right, the front rotors should be straigt forward.

If you are having warping troubles, SERIOUSLY consider the CRYO treated slotted rotors that PowerSlot offers, they are just a few bucks more and last MUCH longer than even the regular powerslots.

You can also find them paired up with a set of Hawk HPS pads, which PowerSlot recommends.
