Cool '95 PSD Won't Move!

Okay, I was driving along all of a sudden the truck acted like it lost all power. Looked down and the tach was reading @600rpm, or whatever it idles at. Check engine light came on and O/D light flashing. When I push on the accelerator pedal it won't change the engine rpm. What the heck? Is there a way to check the throttle position sensor or the idle validation sensor? What would the values be? After waiting for my buddy to come get me and the truck for three hours we took it to the local parts store to have the codes scanned to find out what was wrong before I spend $700 for a new pedal assembly and found their scanner would not read the codes. Whats up with that? It is a 1995 with a production date of late 1994.

Any info you guys can throw my way would be great. Two out of three of our trucks are down now. That leaves my wife's truck. She isn't happy.

Thanks.
Mark

theres a clip down on the pedal assy, on the left side. It sends the voltage to the computer to tell how much to accell. Make sure its plugged in. I was sleepin in my truck at work one day, and I unknowingly popped the clip off with my foot. When I went to move the truck it ran fine, untill I tried to accellerate and nothing happened. Check that out.

1997F-350, The pedal assemblies for 96 and newer are around $200 but the 94 and 95's are $650 to $750. Thanks though. I have a used one coming for $200. Not sure if that is the problem but if not I'll have a spare if it does go bad.

PUD, That was the first thing I checked while I was sitting there. Have unplugged it and plugged it back in about twenty times. Thanks for the info though. Glad to see I have learned a little from this place. At least I am thinking along the right lines. Thanks guys.

Does anyone know for sure it is the pedal assembly? Has anyone had this happen to them?

Thanks,
Mark

check it with a volt meter while running and see if the voltage changes while you push down on the pedal on the tps.

btw i am aware of the different pedal assemblies but i am pretty sure someone used a newer style with no problem.

1997F-350, Sorry, I didn't mean you didn't know what you were talking about. I just don't know enough to know if a newer one would work. Just kind of going by what I have been told.

I'll check the voltages in the morning. Thanks. I already have one coming that is supposed to be here on Thursday. Thanks for the offer. I have to have this thing running by Friday. Going to go camping with the rest of the Northwest.

Thanks,
Mark

1997F-350, Thanks for your help! After all the running around and the wrecking yard sending me the totally wrong part, I went and got an assembly from a 1996. I remembered what you said about it probably working. Everything on the assembly are the same. They just put a different part number on it.

You The Man!!!

Thanks.
