Dave I agree with every thing you said but I would like to add little something, while we may love our trucks, the insurance companies don't think they are worth as much as we do...I have bills totalling over $25,000.00 and I would be very lucky to get $10,000.00 for if it was totalled. I'm in to it for $13,000.00 and I have yet to put my deam IDI in it but what the hell, we can't take it with us!

Some people like shiny new things.
Some people are very content with not so shiny but dependable things.
I can point out many vehicles here that shine way more than my truck, but will not pass state inspection.
I seldom have to fix anything to pass inspection.

I am also a creature of habit, once I find something that works for me and does what I want, why change?
Yes I could have bought a newer truck for about the same money as that reman I bought a couple of years ago, but it would not have been near as much fun as I have had with this one.

I just pulled up my truck expense spreadsheet.
Starting Janurary 1 1997 up to today I have spent 41,000 dollars on my truck in round numbers.
22,000 dollars of that were for fuel.
That leaves 19,000 for all upgrades, tires, repairs, insurance, tags and inspectons.
The upgrades include a dump bed, a Dana 60 axle and a snow plow which came to a bit over 8,500 dollars.

I wish I had started entering my truck expenses into the computer way before 1997.

Dave, the big difference between what you have and what most of us have is this...yours is a work truck and earns you a living thus almost justifying any costs you incur, while the rest of us...it's transportation or tow vehicle or toy, you get the drift. A new truck is is a lot more money and not as much "fun" but it is insured for "market value". I love my truck and don't plan on getting a new one any time soon but at times, I do have some common sense but at as quicky I get it, I lose it just as fast, lol Gino

My truck is my everything.
Transportation, toy, work place, parts getter, grocery getter, take the kid to school ride and vacation transport as well.

Actually I have so many reciepts for what has been done to my truck since day one, as well as all the mileages that everything was done at, I could probably get more than market value out ot it if someone hit me.

Yes over the years that truck has made me much more than it cost.
It does pay for it's upkeep, part of mine also.
That is why I give it all the tender care it asks for, with the best parts I can find for it.

If you walked up with 20,000 cash money wanting to buy my truck, there is a 99% chance you would walk away with 20,000 cash money while I drove away in my truck.

I am not sure if it is dedication or common sense that would say "No Deal", but it took me 20 years to build what I have now. I don't want to start over again.

If you came with a little less money and an 85 or 86 4x4 crew cab in decent shape, I may just have to do it all again though.( I learned some short cuts on the last one, don't have to make the same mistakes this time)

Daves right about one thing, power and traction won't get it done, the limitng factor is traction, since you limited to a weight class.

Check out the alchol fuel tractors and the smokers, they cut the tires down so fat they are almost smooth , the rely on wheel speed and momentum to get it down the track

We went to the pulls saturday night. there was some kid there from upstate NY with a duramax that won. I know that hurts all out feelings but this truck was impressive.

They had 2 chevies 3 fords and two dodges that made full pulls.
In the pulloff they stopped everyone from 190 to 225 feet. With the exception of that one from NY he went out the gate again just as fast as he did in the first pull. I don't care what any one says that was impressive. What was more impressive was the only time it smokked was on launch and when it shifted gears.

I don't know what he did or how he did but that truck was rolling

Yeah that sucks i paid 1500 for my truck and he spent 1500 on tires and rims, that is a very good way to look at it.
