Generator question

I have a Craftsman portable Generator I use when dry camping. It is only 20 amp so it trips the breakers if I try to use the A/C on the camper. Is there a way to bump it up to 30 amp? Is it as simple as a breaker change or can I even get a 30 amp breaker for it?

A 30 amp breaker would most likely smoke the stator windings or the wire to the plugs. When I pull a full 20 amps on mine it is nearly smoking the wires. So I wouldn't recommend upping the amps any.

Buy a larger generator. There is no way to bump the output without burning the unit up.

You need a good sized generator to start an A/C compressor, the inrush start up current can be up to 5 times the rated load amps. Having a hard start installed on the A/C compressor can help out when you have a high voltage drop off when starting.

Check to see what inrush rating of the generator is.
