montana's not an emission state anyway...but either way, i'm selling my 3 pick-ups to a friend so he can make a stump jumper and a firewooding truck from two of them, and i'm currently going to concentrate on my bronco....getting it in good shape, physically and mechanically, and from there, will find something newer (mebbe, we'll see...that word skeers me) that's in better shape to make a "pretty truck"
Two things, I've had experience with both the 292 y-block and 223 I six niether of which would I recomend unless you are looking to rebuild a truck back to show room condition like it just rolled out of the dealership. They are very heavy and extreamely under powered. and my second question is where in Montana are you from? I'm from Kalispell, but I'm stationed down in monterey, ca.
. . . . They are very heavy and extreamely under powered. .
Don't know which V8 is best, so would go with the newest for parts availablilty, but y blocks are around 600 lbs, about what all V8s weigh - and you can get about a horse per cubic inch, again about the same as all the other types of V8.
the older engines are heavy but only about a hundred pounds newer engine are cheaper to build power out of due to parts availibility the y blocks need modifying to correct designed flaw but not real expensive
64Shortie....also from kalispell....get into the High Plains Drifters Forum...there's like 3 of us from kalispell...i've met one of the guys, talked to the other guy on yahoo a couple times....it don't cost nuttin to join the Drifters...just scroll all the way down thru the forums until you get down to the chapter forums, and find us....good to see you and meet you...welcome to FTE....
If you really want to get nostalgic and be different, buy a flathead ford and put that in there. They are making a comeback in hot rod/resto rods builds.
