Perhaps a vacuum leak. Do you have ESOF? If so, do they always work?

Most deffinetly a vacuum leak.
A/c vents default to the defrost vents in the event of vacuum loss.
Could be leaking in the line going from the pump into the dash or where the vac lines connect to the plastic fittings.

ESOF= Electronic Shift on the Fly for your four wheel drive.
It works off of the same vacuum pump. The vacuum pump is on the passenger side on top of the fender well in the engine compartment. Can't miss it.
The pump serves only two things. A/C vent controls and ESOF.
