As most of you know, I was going to resto-mod a '56 4-door to drag race... using my Galaxie's running gear.
Well, I had a vision today... and got to thinking.. which is never a good thing. If I am going to do all this work for a strip machine... why not make it out of something light and cool....
Would I be crazy to take a cab from somewhere between '30 and '47, a box from any of those years, no fenders or hood, a '32 grill, and zoomie headers out the sides? Yea, it would be a RAT ROD... but that would have so much more attitude than a '54 Ford 4-door (and super light).
Let me know your opinions.. and hey, if I can scrounge up a cab and frame... I would definately sell that '54.... I know Snowking has a '39, and that would be a good start!
The 39 don't sell seperate sorry, I got some old K and KB series Internationals they are the same style as a Ford your lookin for. I know IH your lookin for a Ford.
Hey, IH is just as cool. All I really want is a cab and rolling frame. I don't plan on using fenders or hood... will run a box, but no fenders on it either.
At the Arthur Ford truck show in Ontario, there was a 31 pickup, done up rat rod style in red primer. Had a Boss 429 with a blower in it. That thing should fly!!!!
Karm check a site called Oakleaf auto wreckers I think. I was looking at it last night. They have a lot of vintage ford truck tin from the 30's. They are in South dakota. It maybe a haul to go there, but they seem to have enough parts there to make the truck you want.
If you do buy a truck there it is paper work to bring across, no taxes though. I like to be able to go and get the 61 Ranchero he has sitting there. He has a 63 also, that would be a light truck to race with.
Most of the states require title of ownership. Wreck that are bought at salvages you can get those papers at the local gov.license. The other is needed for crossing the border. You have to let them know and show some proof of ownership. I have not done this, but a co-worker has several times he buys vehicles from the states and brings them here fixes them and resells them.
Hopefully someone here can elaborate more that has done this. Paso1 I believe has done this. Fomoko1 may have some knowledge about this than I do.
Not hard to do but proper paper work is required to save on big problems. Depending on what you are bring across usually all you need is the title which comes with American vehicles. Similar to a house title and not just a bill of sale like here in Canada. One thing is to be sure on your way home is to stop at the American border to first clear it with their customs agents, they will check for any money/liens outstanding before allowing the vehicle it to leave the US soil.
One time I brought back a Mustang and didn`t know that I had to check with US customs. There wasn`t any problem that time but there could have been.
