Got the bed cover done. Frame, etc. Finished bed cover
The first guy that says ghetto fabulous dies. Bear in mind that I qualify "A" rating with an iron sight pistol out to 100yds. You don't want to see me with a scoped rifle... and never will!
It'a a medium duty tarp, bought at tractor supply in my case but lowes, homedepot, even walmart has them. It takes 10-14 days to run through a tank as I drive lately.
Well, my 2 pennies.... my 94 F-350 CC 4X would not have had a DENTED tailgate if my wife would have left it up like I told her to! It had a 460 and 4.55's for crissakes, mileage does not enter into the equation with that! She never would agree or listen to me on that, so now 12 years later, I am printing this out to give it to her!! Finally proof, and I win!!
Add a 5th wheel trailer and boy does the picture change. I pull an '05 Citation, with extended pin, and tailgate up, and get minor turbulence in the box. Recantly I purchased an older ('85) Coachman, one with the body out over the pin. What a difference - the turbulence was great enought to actually pick up the back half of the truck's rubber mat and flail it all over the place. Had to bungee across the floor to hold it down! I have a feeling that removing the tailgate in this case will give a lot smoother airflow. JMHO.

Or you could let it slide if you'd like to sleep in your bed this week. 'cause she's gonna come up with a dozen things you don't remember doing, and get pissed, and.... well, life's too short. Give her a kiss instead, hope to get lucky, and you'll both be happier.
Yep, just FYI, I forgot by the time I got home anyway, one day it'll come up. We always give each other ribs on who dents/scratches the trucks first, I scratched the 91s bumper (because her friggin cat was loose in the truck, in the vets parking lot!) So I heard about that 4 ever and a day, so lo and behold when she dents my 94 the fun was mine, it's all fun! And I ALWAYS sleep in my bed, that was one thing from the gitgo, I don't sleep on the couch unless I fall asleep watchin the boob tube!
All my experience has shown me, is that the toughest tailgate a truck has is the one it came with. Aftermarket units, cheap or expensive, just never measure up.
I take good care of the tailgate on my "work" (I don't use that term lightly) truck and I'm not gonna' sacrifice a several hundred dollar (and well built) tailgate for a hardly measurable MPG gain. Besides the standard scienctific proof, it just makes somebody look a few bricks short of a load when the tailgate is down and there's nothing in the bed.
These trucks weren't designed to get super MPG. They were designed to suck gas, haul a**, and move some heavy loads too. You are only limited by your imagination, and it doesn't take much imagination to lower a tailgate.
Whatever happened to that guy around here who wanted to get 30 mpg out of his 70's Ford pickup? Now THAT takes a lot of imagination.
