393 stroker questions
Apparently I can use the stock rods, with 302 pistons. Just need a 393 crank.
Is a 393 crank for a 351 actually a 400m crank? cause I have one of those as well.
also anybody know about grinding the cylinders so the rod dosen't hit em?
and any ideas on which pistons would be best or skirt legnth (don't want it to slap the crank)
thanks
Chris
Since you already have one, you should price out the cost of making the 400M crank fit the 351W...and price out the cost of just a 3.85 crank and see whichever is the cheapest and go that route.
You can use 351 rods and 302 pistons...but if you're boring the block you'll need the right size 302 pistons.
My 393 is a cast 3.85 crank, stock but prepped 351 rods, and good forged .030 302 pistons with valve reliefs for a 2.02 intake valve.
The 3.85 crank (or 393 crank as you put it) is not the same as a 400M crank....the 400M crank is it's own crank for a 400M engine which is completely different than a 351W. The 351M and 400M are the same basic engine...very similar. Many people with a 351M will re-do it to a 400M.
The bottom of the cylinders need to be notched depending on the kit, mine were notched.
Any 302 piston will work provided you match it to the bore correctly.
