Steering Shaft?
I have a 1977 F150 2wd truck that I am restoring and at this time the entire front clip, suspension, steering gear box is off and the engine and tranny are out of the truck. My question is about the steering column shaft that is sticking out in the engine bay. When I grab the steering column shaft inside the engine bay I can move up & Down and from side to side an 1/8" to 1/4" in all directions. Is this normal or is there a bearing/bushing inside of the steering column that needs replacing? Thanks.

Yeah, there is a bearing in there and it has been known to wear out before. There is a little plastic part there that hides the bearing. There is a guy on
Ebay selling a replacement complete sealed metal bearing that looks real good. I bought a 79 tilt column that had been rebuilt by him and it is very impressive.
