Hey guys,
On a trip to Ohio, my truck would surge and jump when the cruise throttled back, mainly at the top of steep grades or coasting down a hill. Any ideas?
Thanks
Do you have any performance upgrades? with my setup on stock tires, it was almost impossible to maintain any speed near 65, it either wanted to slow down, or accelerate, and in cruise control, it would chatter. With the bigger tires on it, it loaded down the engine enought to mostly get rid of it.
Tim
A surge with the cruise control is usually caused by the speed sensor in the rear axle or a damaged harness from this sensor. As the sensor is a magnet, metal particles will also collect on it and cause a false signal. I would remove the sensor and clean it and then change the rear fluid (do a flush out). Check the flush out for metal debris.
It is a automatic. The speed sensor makes sense. If I remember correctly, it was changed once when the truck was new. I will check it. Thanks for all the help!!!!
There also may be a sensor on the trans. I cannot remember what it is called as I have a manual. The wife's Creeper was giving her problems with screwed up shifts, cruise not working right and speedo bounce. I ended up replacing both sensors. It seemed that when the axle sensor failed, it overloaded the sensor in the trans as it was trying to do both jobs. The Creeper went into limp home mode. Dang, what a Chrysler idea, limp home, that is about it, 10 mph for 30 miles. She cussed me all the way home on the phone. Funny thing is after pulling the codes and getting the parts, it took a whole of fifteen minutes to fix.
