I have an axle code of 18 on the door info sticker. Can someone point me in the right direction to find out what that means (ratio, etc) to me? Already know I have the Mazda M5OD tranny (code M). Been driving it for 138K miles so pretty sure it's a manual by now. Just curious what the dif ratio is on my truck, because it's always seemed like it's a long-legged truck. Takes a little while to get it's rubber bands wound up.
Gonna give the ol' girl a bath tomorrow, and post a pic in the gallery. Since I've owned it, I've only seen a total of 6 on the road (including mine) with the striping package mine has. Would be interested to see how many more there out there.

Never mind on the code info, assuming the axle codes didn't change between '86 and 92, I've got a 3.08 dif. Knew it was long-legged.

Reason: Found it, thanks!
According to an article here on FTE you have a 3.08 gear ratio. I assume that your truck is 2 wheel drive because I have a 3.55 rear end on a 4x4 and she is very long-legged...sluggish even.
Fordman, what size tires are you riding on?
I've got a 3.55 gear in my 2wd, and it will light them up at every take off with little more than half throttle.
I've also got 235/75 tires on the back.
Truck is a 1992 Supercab, 5.0/M5...
was once a nice truck, til i put 230,000 miles on it.

Mine's a standard cab, SWB, 5.0/M5OD (as it says in the signature). Bad thing about trying to "light 'em up" with this setup, the F-150 turns into a JACKRABBIT 150. REALLY bad wheel hop on the back of the short wheelbase (117") Nothing back there to hold it down, and I'm sure having the 1/2 ton springs isn't helping to limit axle twist. 235/75's all the way 'round on mine. Still pretty much all factory setup except the shorty headers.
My service manual says that code is for a 3800 lb axle with 3,08 ratio. There is another way to check, just look at the service tag on one of the rear cover bolts.the ratio will be the number on the lower left portion of the tag. It will look like 3.08 for an open diff

I've spent so much time under there lately changing a fuel pump, I just wasn't real excited about going back under there. But thanks for the info, and I'll look for the tag (one day) to see if it actually matches the door sticker. Should, the truck's still factory issue with the exception of the bed liner and shorty headers. Even the headers are Ford Racing, tho.
