Hello, i jsut recently bought a used ranger (mentioned above) and can't seem to get the shift points jsut right. i've drove standards all my life so im used to them, just being in big diesels. Thinking it might be me used to heavy equip than the truck having somethin wrong with it, i figured id ask my superiors here at fte. so what rpm/ speed do yall use for a smooth shift? being used to diesels i usually just listen to the motor (lugging, etc.) but this things to quiet to tell. thank in advance

According to the book: 15, 25, 37, 45. But shift points are a factor of situation, so shift as you feel it necessary.
I follow those usually, but anything below 3K is around right. I'll typically keep it below 2700 as my OHV makes peak torque at 2750 (you have a SOHC version).
thats what ive been doing 2500- 3000 depending on the situtation, but every once in a while ill finds my self shiftin at 2000 or less thinkin im in a big truck
The sohc has a sweet spot at around 2500 rpm, but below 2000 rpm the torque falls off pretty quickly, so for normal driving you would want to shift at between 3000 and 3500 so that the rpm after the shift stays above 2000.
After I put the Bama Tuner in, I needed to adjust my shift points up a little, because with that tune, the thing is really thirsty below around 2200 rpm!
