I've noticed a knock coming from the motor. It only does it when I get down to a 1/4 of a tank of fuel. I can go fill up or get it up to 3/4 and the knock will go away. I'm kind of wondering if I have some water in my tank. With all this hot humid weather we have been having here in NWFlorida I'm wondering if I'm getting condensation in the tank.?.?
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I've drained my water sepreator a couple of times, even though the H2O in Fuel light has not come on any. I also replaced the fuel filter today....which I usually do every other oil change. I did try to strech this one to 15K. It was black when I pulled it out. Won't do that again!
it is most likely air in the fuel. correct that statement, it IS air in the fuel. due to the shotty design of the fuel pickup mechanism in the tank, it will enable air to be pulled into the pickup assembly when there is less than 1/4 tank of fuel. the air then goes through the pump, and into the heads, where the only way out is through the injectors. the sound it makes is a small hammer tapping on the engine block. is that what you hear? the common fix for this is (research these) in-tank and prepump mods/ Hutch mod. however the cheaper of both is to keep the tank above 1/4
Yes, a small hammer tapping noise is what it sounds like. I usually do keep the tank above a 1/4 but have let it run down a few times here lately. I figured it was something like air or water one. I have heard of those fuel pick-up mods here on in the forum and yes I agree it is cheaper and less head ache to keep fuel in the tank.
