I don't know why Henry designed these hinges like this... I hear the the 53 truck was the last vehicle he worked on (for the Jubilie)
Maybe the hinges made him retire from the design part...
thanks for the ? because I just got my new hinges from LMC last week....yes i should have went with the tilt but man, those kits are not cheap....plus Xmas and New Years is around the corner and how do you explain to the 1st Lady that you spent more on the truck than the family :-(
Make sure you're using the correct bolts. They don't have to be torqued to no end either just snug, then a wire was used from bolt head to bolt head so they did'nt loosen up, I had a hell of a time with mine too, but they work good now.

At least one individual here found that his new hinges were bound tight at the critical pivot as well, so be sure to remove the springs and check yours and lube with some white lithium grease before installing them.
