Having paid victim prices from the local stealership to have my cps changed, I'm following the advice of many here and keeping a spare plus 10mm socket, etc. and prying tools in with my others. I'll probably get a "blue" since I'm stock now and budget will keep me from any changes except a 6637 plus zoodad. I drive a 2005 IH446 at work and with the Allison tranny it pulls a trencher plus fully loaded elctrician's service body at 75 mph without a glitch. That 6 spd tranny is sweet. I wish Ford's better idea had included it in my 2000 F250 FWD.
At another thread that "Pop" has started investigating connector potential causes for bad cps, someone asked for a pic of the cps location. He was told to do a search here, as I did, and he and I found nothing. Have any of you fine folks who help us get over picking Fords for toys (tow vehichles) etc. got a pic of the cps location in your photo gallery (s)? I know it's on the right side near the flywheel, but even when I'm going where I've been before I check a road map. Would really appreciate some of the fine help I've seen here. OK?
your cps is behind the front crank pulley. you will see what looks like a timing mark pointer like on a gasser. that is the bracket that holds the cps in place.you cant miss it.
Thanks, Alan. Where did you get the diagram (pic)? I'm sure there will be other reasons to be able to see where these parts are. I've usually been successful with my repairing when I've got a good manual.
Ron, I spose would apply to my not having read the "read 1st" which covers most newbie topics, including the link you gave which will be invaluable for the next problem.
guzzle, your article puts all that's needed in one source.
All you guy's photo galleries are aids in themselves for future projects, thanks for the time it took to put them together.
If anyone has a new (or like new) black CPS and want to swap it out with a blue one that I have PM me. I bought a blue one a few months back and used it for about a month until I got my DP-Tuner. So I pulled the blue one back out and reinstalled my black one (DP-Tuners run better with the black CPS). Now I have a blue CPS that I don't need.
