a couple ?'s

I Would Like To Wash My 7.3. When I Do, I Will Spray Degreaser On It, Wash It Off With The Hose, Leave It Running While I Do This. Any Thing I Need To Cover, On The Motor Or The Banks System?

My Next ? I Am Looking At A 1990 F350 Xlt Lariat Crew Cab Dually 2wd Auto. 7.3 Non Turbo. 148,000 $4000.00 . I Am Trying To Justify Having 2 Diesel Trucks. I Could Trade Mine In, But, I Know What I Have In My Truck. I Need A 4door 4wd [ A Jeep, Explorer, Etc...] My Son Can No Longer Fit In The Back Of Our X-cab[ 5' 5" 180lbs]. When We Go Places With Other People. A 4x4 Jeep, Etc.. Would Be Good For Winter, I Would Appreciate Any Input. What Do You Think? Bob.

Re: washing a 7.3
Be careful, don't clean your engine when it's hot you can damage your injector pump, air conditioning compressor anything that has different metals in it and and tight fits/allowances. I've cleaned mine with laundry detergent solution sprayed through one of those cheap engine cleaners that work off a compressor and suck up then spray a solution. I sprayed a warm (not hot) solution to clean off the detergent and then followed up with a warm water rinse thru the same sprayer. I covered anything electrical, altenator, glow plug relay... with plastic bags and tried not to spray those areas directly. The engine was cold when I cleaned it. Use rags to soak up fluid trapped on top the engine then go for a drive to fully dry everything.

When I do mine, the engine is slightly warm to cold.
Spray engine cleaner on it and let it soak a bit.
I wash mine with a pressure washer and wash everything under the hood.

thank you. think i will nix the 90 dually crew cab. needs a little work. dealer told me he would trade me for my truck plus a little cash.[ didn't specify]. i believe my truck is worth more. i think my banks system is worth more than that dually, or pretty close. says he has a guy who didn't want a crew cab , wanted an x-cab w/5 speed. coincedence? i think not. mine is in better shape. think he could sell mine quicker.
