Diesel Conversion

Simple Conversion....Did it as simple as i could figure. Used a non computerized Cummins motor...coupled to a Wilcap Adapters Engine adapter... Engine .bolts up to the Ford Diesel ZF transmission to the NP transfercase. Had to configure motor mounts.....very simple & all mechanical components & connections.
company makes an automatic transmission kit for the Cummins 5.9 to a F350 conversion.

did the quick repower...Cummins None computerized diesel engine, Wilcap Adapters Cummins / Ford adapter. Ford ZF S5-42 transmission & NP Tcase. Had to custom fabricate mounts....basic approach. Wilcap Adapters of Arroyo Grande, CA does make a kit to install a Cummins into an Automatic F350 truck.

I haven't done the swap yet, (7.3L IDI turbo) but I've got an engine already and am trying to find a T19 Diesel transmission to replace the T18 that I have. I've been told that the diesel bellhousing will bolt in place of the T18 bellhousing, but I want the T19 ratios for the install.

My major concerns are clearance to the cab from the turbo downpipe and from the valve cover and exhaust to the A/C blower box. If anyone has input on this, it would help the potential swappers out.

Oh, yeah. I'm working on putting it into a 79 F250 reg cab w/T18 4-speed to replace the 400 that's in it now.

I've got a friend who is putting a 7.3L psd in a '79 crew cab, instead of fabricating a whole new doghouse he just put about a 2" body lift on it, it doesn't look too bad either. With that he just had to make room for the T case stick ( about a 6"x6" notch in the floor pan. Theese guys are right when they say GET A WHOLE DONER TRUCK and part out the left overs that way you have everything you need to make that truck run. Good luck!

Thanks Everyone!!!

Hay all! Well, if anyone remembers my first post, I've got a few parts trucks laying around that I thought at the time I'd need for my build. Well, they still may come in handy later so for now I'm still buying parts trucks. I just picked up an '88 F350 RC 4x4 460 5spd. I wanted it for the axles and springs, D60 up front. I havn't seen the truck yet, but for 500, don't care! I think I did good there...unless anyone see a problem with using that particular running gear? Anyway, I continue my search for an '78 or '79 4x4 x-tended cab frame. I didn't realize it would be this difficult. But I'm persistant and one will eventually show up and I'll git busy prepping it for my dream truck! Again, thanks for all the info! It has been great! Keep the ideas coming! If you guys with friends that have done a Diesel swap into an 'ol 78 or '79 could send pics, that would be wonderful! Take care out there and Happy Holidays to all! Walt

How close to San Diego are ya? I know where there are a few truck around town. If I can get down to my buddy's house sometime soon I'll take a few pic's of his '79 crew cab with the psd, the front clip is dtill off of iit but that should give you some idea's on what kind of clearance you'll have. as long as u have the entire donor truck these psd swaps will not be that tough some minor fab work and patients, to keep in mind the the rearend and frontend need to withstand the trq and hp that u plan on putting to them

The Cummins 12V is the easiest, followed by a 6.9 IDI, 7.3 IDI, 7.3 Turbo IDI.

www.fordcummins.com has a lot of resources and Advance Adapters has the bellhousing adapter to make it all fit.
