Maybe I will get a prize for posting the 1 millionth exhaust question.
I have read what seems like hundreds of exhaust threads, but can't seem to find any info on JEGS and Summit's exhaust kits. They are probably private labels made by someone else...... I figured someone here would know something about them.
I am looking for a 4" turbo back exhaust. I'm looking for alluminized for cost reasons. I really don't want loud. Quiet fits my personal tastes better.
Here is what I have located so far:
MBRP 3.5" down pipe, unknown gauge $370
Bully Dog 4" down Pipe, 16 gauge $450
Hog 4" down pipe I think 16 gauge $385 I'm hesitant on this one because of loudness.
JEGS 4" down pipe, 16 gauge $325
Summit 4" down pipe, unknown gauge $311
I am really leaning towards JEGS, but would like to get some sort of feedback. I have had very good experieinces with BD products, but I am having a hard time justifying the extra cost. Any input of additional information would be greatly appreciated.
Before replacing your down pipe make sure your servicing dealer is modification friendly. My local dealers (Power Ford Torrance and Don Kott Ford)have requested that I remove my Afe air intake and my Banks down pipe. They claim it disturbs the exhaust back pressure sensor?
That's probably a good indicator for your answer. If you don't see it discussed in the forums it's probably not too widely used.
The MBRP is proven to be a high quality product with easy installation and a good sound while giving the owner a choice to keep or delete the stock CAT. MBRP makes pipe systems for many manufacturers. The extra $45 for the MBRP gets you quite a bit.
Take LVEILLON's advice, those systems use a hollow core muffler and it actully makes a restriction as compared to a muffler like the MBRP that uses a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool for packing materials.
If price is one of your main concerns we have the AFE systems in aluminized and 409 stainless that are very very price competitive. They fit great, sound good and are a bargain. Call us if you have any questions.
I forgot to mention that the MBRP is about as close to stock sound with much better flow. The only other exhaust I've heard quieter was the Banks, but it pricey. When you start the truck it has a hefty grunt and when you get on the pedal it sounds pretty good without that horrible Hwy-Drone. If you go to the MBRP website I think they have sounds clips. Lastly...MBRP has a CAT-Delete pipe that fits nice and neat.
I have talked to people who have the MBRP system. They seem happy with them. I bought my turbo back system for my 06 F250 off Ebay. The system is made by Pinnacle Power Exhaust. I cost me $275plus $45 for S&H. You can delete the CAT for an additional $40. I bought kit then later elected to eliminate the CAT however that does add more sound to the truck. Removed by Admin
That sounds interesting and very heavy duty with 14 gauge steel. Did you notice a drop in EGTs?
It's obvious that MBRP has a good rep on here.... my biggest hesitation with them is that they use 18 gauge steel.
I almost wish there was only one so the choice would be easier
Sorry I'm not an advertiser just found this site and wanted to help this guy out with choosing a nice exhaust for the price. With fuel prices at or above $3 a gallon you have to spend money wisely. Again I am sorry I'm new and did not realize how to comunicate with in the RULES!
Sorry I'm new to this site and was just giving an opinion on my recent purchase. I'm unsure how else to give ideas with out describing what I'm talking about. I'm not into advertising any products. I just ran accross this question and was really happy with my purchase and wanted to help a ford brother out! Sorry
Thanks for the info. I think I will likely go with the one you mentioned. I will call them tomorrow and as long as all goes well I will order it. They had some good photos on their website of their system.
If you're getting an aluminized system the gauge of the pipe is really not very relevant to the life span and quality of the system. On aluminized the tubing will last longer than you and I will much less the truck, the issue is anywhere it's been cut or welded on, the aluminized coating is burned off and the corrosion will set in here at the 1st mud puddle you splash thru.
When you take the costs that PA 6.0 STROKER listed that system is no real bargian either as far as cost goes, if you get it so they cat is in place to keep the dealers happy you're looking at 360.00-375.00 delivered. We sell the AFE stainless systems for just 20-30.00 more than that and now you have stainless system that will last and last. Sure it'll get brown/gray looking but it'll be there. In fact that is why the OEM manufacturers use 409, anything north of the cat is covered by the 100,000.00 mile Federal emmission warranty. And you know none of the OEM's are into getting you a new exhaust if yours failed, so they use 409 stainless knowing it'll last!!
If you're set on aluminized our AFE aluminized systems are actually quite a bit lower that what PA 6.0 STROKER quoted and they are set up to attach the cat from the outset. Call us if you have any questions etc.
