The offset, measured in millimeters, can be negative or positive, and is the distance from the mounting surface to the rim's true centerline(looking at it from it's side view). A positive offset means the wheel is front of the mounting surface, closer to the center of the fender; a negative offset means the wheel is away from the mounting surface and projecting from the fender. So more neg. offset would make your wheels stick out more, but with wider wheels you'd have more back spacing. The more neg. offset you have, the more backspacing you can get away with. But keep in mind, that too much either way, and your tires will scrub when turning causing premature wear. Have I got you confused now?

well my stock rims are actualy off a 79 ford so there actualy not wide enough there like 6 inchs wide. and they are aluminum but have no shine so im replacing them. im running 31 x 10.50 r 15 tires and thats what i plan to keep on the truck. The stock rims with those tires rub the radias arm when you turn all the way, trying to avoid that with the new rims. Also im trying to decide to go 7 inch rim or 8 inch, leaning towards 8 inch. the rims im looking at are either the outlaw II from american racing or american racing baja rims.
