My X wouldn't start!
The temperature in the parking lot was in the neighborhood of 105 F. I was in
the store approximately 45 minutes. When I came out that 6L wouldn't start.
It was as if someone had removed the starter. All the icons on the instrument
panel came up, including the glow-plug icon and went off shortly. All else
worked. Since this Excursion is an '05, and under warranty, I had it towed to
the dealership. Monday afternoon the service writer called and reported that
the problem was fixed. It seems that fuse no. 113, a 30 amp fuse, (pink color)
was the culprit. Don't know if it blew protecting the circuitry, or if it was
defective. In any case, has anyone run into anything like this? I don't have an
electrical shop manual so I don't know what's involved. It leaves me with a bad
feeling! Specifically, I wonder if the starter solenoid is on the "ragged edge"
of being defective. All the dealership did was to replace the fuse and visually
check the wiring for evidence of a short. What say you?
I don't have the shop manual handy so maybe someone else can tell you exactly what is on that circuit. Maybe you can do some sleuthing yourself if you are a bit wary of the service department's competance. (most of us are.
