Friend of mine has a 2000 Dodge Cummins Dually that he uses to pull a 2 car wedge hauler in a 5th wheel hitch. He also has a 2000 Ford Lariet 150 crew cab. He would like to sell both trucks and get a F350 CC SRW to pull the hauler and use as a personal driver! The hauler and 2 cars are about 18 to 19 k ! What we would like to know is will the F350 SRW be stable enough to handle that kind of load? We have a lot of twisty rds up here in the Smokie Mtns!!The height of the highest car on the hauler would be upfront and I believe no higher most likely lower than some of those monster 5th wheel TT that you see goin down the road! I know there has to someone out there that would like to chime in on this! Thanks Guys
If you are saying the wedge hauler and the two cars are 18-19 thousand pounds my diesel manual says a cc f350 w 3.73 rr has a max GCWR of 23000 lbs. That's not enough if I'm reading everything correctly.
If you were to do this I would advise good trailer brakes (the 05 and newer SD's have very respectable factory brakes), maybe a regearing to 4.10, and rickson 19.5" wheels and tires. Those three things could make the F350 more capable than the dodge.
The Dodge quad cab Dually is what we are using right now ! And yes the car trailer does have brakes! I don't dought the Ford will haul the freight ! Stablity in the curves is what we would like to know! Is SWR enough??
Smokie, we have a trailer identical to the one you pictured to haul cars to and from auctions, We`ve only towed it once with a srw truck and many times with the dually, BIG DIFFERENCE!! Dually is the way to go, it handles the roads here in West Virginia with no problem. We use a 04 F-350 4x4 6.0 DRW and it handles smoothly and plenty of power with 2 cars on it.
JR! That is what we use it for to! I am sure that the Dually would be more stable ! But we are trying to get away from driving a dually around small town doing errands ! SWR handles the everyday drivin and parkin a little eaiser!! I guess the down and dirty of it "can the F350 SWR handle this trailer! And thank you all for your comments! Keepem comin!!
225/70R19.5 are the same as on a F-450. If you want stabilty from a SRW use those tires, the factory rear sway bar for the slide in camper package, and possibly the dually rear leaf pack. Other options - add a second leaf to the upper overload leaf or add air ride helper bags.
