IFS is usually heavier than a SFA system...

i would have never guessed that IFS would be heavier than an SFA setup. I think most of it is the bulkhead around the front of the motor that ford calls "safety" that weighs a ton and makes ford trucks/suvs hard to work on.

Yes, it's all just extra weight until you have an accident and survive it.

i have never been in an accident (as far as in a vehicle) (knocks on wood). extra weight also don't always mean safer. IF that was indeed the case, NASCAR and IRL would be driving Mack Trucks.

I may be wrong on this, but I think that would slow them down considerably. I know if a honda and a Mack were to have a collision, I would prefer to be driving the Mack.

One thing I like about Ford superduties is I can change my oil without lifting the truck at all. On a Chevy its very difficult at ground level. I am firm believer in a SFA on HD truck. When your pulling a heavy load you wont have near as much sway from front to back as you do with a IFS system.

i agree with moldman7n, but in the same token, take both objects and roll them over, and the honda will probably fair better than the Mack.

BTW 150ford. I like the idea of not having to lift the truck to change the oil. But I have never had a problem with sway front to back.....or left and right for that matter with our 30' 5er.

Your probably just used to it. In a superduty you will have less. BTW if your in a honda youd probably be dead if you rolled over.

Ha! It's funny you mention that. I change the oil in my truck here at work and when the guys see me slide a 5 gallon bucket under the running boards with 1/4" to spare, they all stare in disbelief. Ain't gonna be doin' that with a GM truck running boards or no.

I too am a firm believer in solid front axles. However, since I don't have the desire to lift another truck that I'm still making payments on (i.e. the monster truck), then IFS is beginning to look ok.

There is ONE major problem I have with these GM trucks. It's the steering. With my Ford, I can swat flies, sneeze, drink a big gulp and spill it all over the place and never loose my position in my lane. However, with the Chevy, one small twitch from a "mini-shiver" and you're swappin' paint with the guy next to you. The steering is far too sensitive.

Amazing- if Fords had placed in the truck pull this thread would be all about how great they pull and how the competition results prove it.
Oil change: my DMax doesn't require the 5 gallon bucket like my Powerstroke because the DMax only needs 11 qts, not 16.

For me, it is the exact opposite. If I drive a ford or dodge, it is like I have to actually watch what I am doing. I have to actually drive the truck. With a GM, I can put my hand on the wheel, and barely ever have to move it to get the truck to react. With a ford or dodge, I start moving the wheel, and I keep wondering to myself, when am I going to end up in the other lane, because it takes forever. The I normally end up having to correct myself if I am in a dodge or ford, because I always end up going too far.

Just the difference in trucks, but personally, I love the tight sensative steer a lot over the ford and esp the dodge. I have tractors that drive down the road better than some dodge trucks I have driven.
